Music Department

Southbourne Music Department offers our learners the opportunity to experience music from Grade R right through to Grade 7. 

In Grade R we focus on rhythm and pitch through vocal and rhythm echoing  exercises, the use of solfege and the introduction of tuned and untuned percussion.

As we move through the grades we build on what we learnt in the previous year slowly adding theory in bite sizes as we move forward. The aim is for the learner to have a clear understanding of basic theory, rhythm and pitch.

We also encourage creativity in music through music composition exercises. This is all aimed at creating a love for music.

With the new edition of our Ukulele Program for grades 4 to 7, every single learner will leave Grade 7 with the ability to confidently play at least one musical instrument.
